Friday night at Bryant Park brings a vibrant celebration of global sound. On Friday, August 15 at 7 PM, the World Music Institute presents Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East and Gamelan Dharma Swara, uniting South Asian rhythms and Balinese music for an unforgettable outdoor performance.
Sunny Jain, the renowned dhol drummer, composer, and bandleader, blends traditional Indian music with rock, jazz, and cinematic flair. His performance with Wild Wild East delivers bold, high-energy storytelling through percussion and voice, rooted in diasporic identity and cultural fusion.
Opening the evening is Gamelan Dharma Swara, bringing the intricate and hypnotic sounds of Balinese gamelan to Bryant Park for the first time. Accompanied by traditional dancers, the ensemble offers a rare New York City experience steeped in centuries of Indonesian tradition.
Presented as part of Bryant Park’s Picnic Performances and curated by the World Music Institute, this free event turns Midtown into a global stage for world-class talent. The lawn opens at 5 PM. Come early, bring a blanket, and settle in for a night of cross-cultural rhythm and movement.
